The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And your clothing purify 4 Pollution shun! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
