The chiefs of the people of Fir'awn said: verily this is a magician knowing. 109 who seeks to drive you from your land!" Pharaoh said, "What then do you advise?" 110 Others said: 'Put them off a while, he and his brother, and send forth to your cities gatherers 111 who shall bring before thee every sorcerer of great knowledge." 112 And the enchanters came to Firon (and) said: We must surely have a reward if we are the prevailing ones. 113 "Yes," said he, "you will be among the honoured." 114 They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Either you throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 He said, "Throw," and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We inspired Musa (Moses) (saying): "Throw your stick," and behold! It swallowed up straight away all the falsehoods which they showed. 117 ۞ Thus the truth was upheld, and the falsehood that they practised was exposed. 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 And the magicians were obliged to fall prostrate. 120 saying, "We declare our belief in the Lord of the Universe, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences). 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They answered: "Verily, unto our Sustainer do we turn 125 "The only reason you have to hate us is that we believed in the signs of our Lord as they came to us. O our Lord, give us sufficient endurance that we may die submitting (to You)." 126
