The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness, 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 And given the faculty of knowing what is disruptive and what is intrinsic to it. 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
