The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the sky is torn apart, 1 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 and casts out what is within it and is emptied, 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O man, indeed you have to surely run towards your Lord, and to meet him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 shall be called to an easy accounting, 8 And will return to his family in joy! 9 And whoever is given his record of deeds behind his back – 10 he will pray for utter destruction 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness; 13 Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allah]. 14 Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! 15 I do not need to swear by the sunset, 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 And by the moon when she becometh full. 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 What then is the matter with them, that they believe not?- 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them do not bow in adoration? ۩ 21 But those who have disbelieved deny, 22 And Allah knows best what they gather (of good and bad deeds), 23 So give them news of painful punishment, 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
