The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
When the sun shall be folded up, 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 The mountains made to move, 3 and when she-camels big with young, about to give birth, are left untended, 4 when the savage beasts shall be mustered, 5 When the oceans surge and swell, 6 when the souls are coupled (to their body), 7 And when the girl buried alive shall be asked: 8 for what offence was she killed? 9 And when the pages are laid open, 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped off and taken away from its place; 11 and Hell is stoked, 12 and Paradise brought nigh: 13 (Then) every soul will know what it hath made ready. 14 I swear by the receding stars. 15 orbiting, disappearing; 16 And by the night when it departeth, 17 and the morn as it softly breathes: 18 Most surely it is the Word of an honored messenger, 19 one mighty and held in honour with the Lord of the Throne; 20 [the word] of one to be heeded, and worthy of trust! 21 And your comrade is not mad. 22 he truly beheld him [the angel] on the clear horizon. 23 And this Prophet is not miserly upon the hidden. (Allah gave the knowledge of the hidden to the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.) 24 Nor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned. 25 Whither, then, will you go? 26 This is nothing but a Reminder to the worlds, 27 Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight. 28 And ye shall not will unless it be that Allah, the Lord of the worlds, willeth. 29
