The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 on lavish couches 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
