The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
