The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 Consider the day as it reveals the world, 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 Truly he succeeds that purifies it, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 He has no fear of its sequel. 15
