The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 Living therein for ages. 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
