The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ The Merciful One 1 Taught the Qur'an, 2 Created man, 3 and He taught him speech. 4 The sun and the moon to a reckoning, 5 And the herbs (or stars) and the trees both prostrate. 6 He raised the heaven on high and set the scale. 7 That you not transgress within the balance. 8 Always measure with justice and do not give short measure. 9 And the earth He has put for the creatures. 10 There are fruits of all kinds on it, and date-palms with their clusters sheathed, 11 Also corn, with (its) leaves and stalk for fodder, and sweet-smelling plants. 12 How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? 13 He created man from sounding clay like unto pottery, 14 And the jinns did He create from a smokeless flame of fire. 15 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? 16 He is the Lord of the East and West through all seasons. 17 Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? 18 He has given freedom to the two great bodies of water, so that they might meet: 19 Whereas there is a barrier between them so they cannot encroach upon one another. 20 So O men and jinns! Which favour of your Lord will you deny? 21 From the two oceans comes pearls and coral. 22 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 23 His too are the ships that run, raised up in the sea like land-marks. 24 Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie? 25
