The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif Lam Ra. Those are the signs of the Book and of a manifest Koran. 1 It could be that those who disbelieve will wish that they were Muslims. 2 Leave them that they may eat and enjoy themselves and (that) hope may beguile them, for they will soon know. 3 Whenever We destroyed a town, a definite term had previously been decreed for it. 4 [but remember that] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [it]. 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us, if thou art of the truthful? 7 We do not send down angels except for a genuine purpose, at which time none will be given any further respite. 8 Behold, it is We Ourselves who have bestowed from on high, step by step, this reminder; and behold, it is We who shall truly guard it [from all corruption]. 9 (O Muhammad), certainly We did send Messengers before you among the nations which have gone by. 10 And there never came an apostle to them but they mocked him. 11 Even so do we let it creep into the hearts of the sinners - 12 They would not believe in it (the Quran), and already the example of (Allah's punishment of) the ancients (who disbelieved) has gone forth. 13 And if We opened upon them a door of the heaven, and they passed the day mounting thereto. 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
