۞ And We verily gave Abraham of old his proper course, and We were Aware of him, 51 Recall, when he said to his father and his people: "What are these images to which you are devoutly clinging?" 52 They said: We found our fathers worshippers of them. 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They said: 'Is it the truth you have brought us, or are you one of those that play' 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 "And by Allah, I have a plan for your idols - after ye go away and turn your backs".. 57 He broke all the idols into pieces, except the biggest among them so that perhaps people would refer to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!" 59 Some of them said, "We heard a youth called Abraham speaking against the idols". 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? 62 He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." 63 So they returned one to another saying, 'Surely, it is you who are the harmdoers' 64 Then they reversed themselves, [saying], "You have already known that these do not speak!" 65 He said, “What! You worship, instead of Allah, one that neither benefits you nor harms you?” 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship instead of God! Will you not, then, use your reason?" 67 They said: 'Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do anything' 68 We said: O fire, be coolness and peace for Abraham, 69 They wished to entrap him, but We made them greater losers. 70 And We delivered him and Lut to the land wherein We had placed Our blessings for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac and, as an additional gift, (a grandson), Jacob, and We made righteous men of every one (of them). 72 and made them leaders who would guide [others] in accordance with Our behest: for We inspired them [with a will] to do good works, and to be constant in prayer, and to dispense charity: and Us [alone] did they worship. 73 We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient. 74 We admitted him to Our Mercy, he was among the righteous. 75
