۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 When he asked his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so devoted?" 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: assuredly ye, ye and your fathers, have been in error manifest. 54 They said, "Have you brought us the truth or are you jesting?" 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 And, by God, I shall assuredly outwit your idols, after you have gone away turning your backs.' 57 He broke them all into pieces, except for the biggest one of them, so that they might return to it [for enquiry]. 58 They said, 'Who has. done this with our gods? Surely he is one of the evildoers.' 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them the one called Ibrahim.” 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 They asked, "Abraham, did you do this to our idols?" 62 "No," he said. "It was done by that chief of theirs. Ask him in case they can speak." 63 Then they turned to themselves and said: Surely you yourselves are the unjust; 64 Thereafter they were made to turn over upon their heads, saying, assuredly thou knowest that they speak not. 65 (Abraham) said, "Do ye then worship, besides Allah, things that can neither be of any good to you nor do you harm? 66 “Disgrace be upon you and all the idols whom you worship instead of Allah; so do you not have sense?” 67 They said: "Burn him, and save your gods, if you are men of action." 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 And they intended for him harm, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob as an additional gift and caused all of them to be righteous men, 72 And We made them chiefs who guide by Our command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds and the right establishment of worship and the giving of alms, and they were worshippers of Us (alone). 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 We encompassed him in Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
