Behold, thy Lord called Moses: "Go to the people of iniquity,- 10 the people of Pharaoh: do they have no fear?" 11 He said: "My Lord! Verily, I fear that they will belie me, 12 And my breast straitens, and my tongue is not eloquent, therefore send Thou to Haroun (to help me); 13 They hold a sin against me, and I fear that they will kill me' 14 Allah said: "By no means! proceed then, both of you, with Our Signs; We are with you, and will listen (to your call). 15 Go, then, to Pharaoh and say to him: 'The Lord of the Universe has sent us 16 "'Send thou with us the Children of Israel.'" 17 He said, 'Did we not raise thee amongst us as a child? Didst thou not tarry among us years of thy life? 18 And you did (that) deed of yours which you did, and you are one of the ungrateful. 19 He (Moses) replied: 'Indeed, I did that when I was among those who stray. 20 Then I ran away from you in fear, but my Lord granted me the law and has appointed me as a Messenger. 21 But the favour you oblige me with is that you have enslaved the children of Israel." 22 Pharaoh said, 'And what is the Lord of all Being?' 23 He said: The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 24 The Pharaoh said to the people around him, "Did you hear that?" 25 Musa (Moses) said: "Your Lord and the Lord of your ancient fathers!" 26 Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "Verily, your Messenger who has been sent to you is a madman!" 27 He said: The Lord of the east and the west and what is between them, if you understand. 28 Said he, 'If thou takest a god other than me, I shall surely make thee one of the imprisoned.' 29 Moses said: "Even if I were to bring a Clear Sign to you?" 30 He (Pharaoh) replied: 'Show us your sign, if you are of the truthful' 31 Thereupon [Moses] threw down his staff - and lo! it was a serpent, plainly visible; 32 And he drew out his hand, and behold, it was white to all beholders! 33
