And recite to them the tiding of Abraham 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 He said, “Do they hear you when you call?” 72 or benefit you or do you harm?" 73 They said, “In fact we found our forefathers doing likewise.” 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 you and your forefathers -- 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 And heals me when I am sick, 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 “And forgive my father* he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 And do not disgrace me on the day when they are raised from the graves, 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 Unless it be he, who shall bring unto Allah a whole heart, 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 And Hell made visible to those who had gone astray. 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 And the soldiers of Iblees, all together. 95 They shall say, as they dispute there one with another, 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 when we considered you equal to the Lord of the Universe. 98 And none has brought us into error except the Mujrimun [Iblis (Satan) and those of human beings who commit crimes, murderers, polytheists, oppressors, etc.]. 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 (Alas!) If we only had a chance to return (to the world), we shall truly be among the believers! 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 And indeed your Lord only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
