The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 I am a trustworthy messenger for you: 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you for it. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 "And when you seize, seize you as tyrants? 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 Lo! I fear for you the retribution of an awful day. 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 This is just a habit of antiquated people. 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 In this there is evidence (of the Truth), yet most of them do not have any faith. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
