Thamud denied the messengers 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you 143 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 "Will you be left secure in that which you have here? 146 "In gardens and springs. 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 do not obey the bidding of those who are given to excesses, 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They said, "You are only bewitched and insane. 153 Thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! Come, then, forward with a token [of thy mission] if thou art a man of truth!" 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her, and then were penitent. 157 and torment struck them. In this there is evidence of the Truth, yet many people do not have any faith. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159
