A Sign for them is the earth that is dead: We do give it life, and produce grain therefrom, of which ye do eat. 33 We have laid out gardens of dates and grapes upon it, and made springs of water flow, 34 that they might eat of its fruits and their hands' labour. What, will they not be thankful? 35 Hallowed be He who hath created all the pairs of that which the earth groweth, and of themselves and of that which they know not! 36 And a sign unto them is the night. We draw off the day therefrom, and lo! they are darkened. 37 And the sun runneth on unto a resting-place for him. That is the measuring of the Mighty, the Wise. 38 And for the moon We have appointed mansions till she return like an old shrivelled palm-leaf. 39 It is not for the sun to overtake the moon, nor does the night outstrip the day. They all float, each in an orbit. 40 And a sign for them is that We carried their forefathers in a laden ship. 41 And We have created for them the like of it, what they will ride on. 42 and [that,] if such be Our will, We may cause them to drown, with none to respond to their cry for help: and [then] they cannot be saved, 43 Unless by Our benevolence, to reap advantage for a time. 44 When it is said to such people: “Guard yourselves against what is ahead of you and what has preceded you that mercy be shown to you” (they pay scant heed to it). 45 And there comes not to them a communication of the communications of their Lord but they turn aside from it. 46 And when it is said unto them: expend of that wherewith Allah hath provided you, those who disbelieve say unto those who believe: shall we feed those whom God Himself would have fed, if He listed? Ye are in naught else than error manifest. 47 Further, they say, "When will this promise (come to pass), if what ye say is true?" 48 The Truth is that they are waiting for nothing but a mighty Blast to seize them the while they are disputing (in their worldly affairs), 49 They will have no time to make a will, nor shall they return to their own people. 50
