Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 We now remove the punishment for some days – so you will again commit the same. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 And the delights which they had been enjoying! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
