The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the mount. 1 And by oath of a passage, written 2 On a parchment scroll unrolled, 3 And by oath of the Inhabited House. 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 And by the sea kept filled (or it will be fire kindled on the Day of Resurrection). 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 Those who are playing in pursuits. 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 "This is the Fire which you used to deny. 14 “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 reclining on couches arranged in rows. And We shall wed them to fair maidens with large beautiful eyes. 20 The offspring of the believers will also follow them to Paradise. So shall We join their offspring to them because of their faith. We shall reduce nothing from their deeds. Everyone will be responsible for his own actions. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 "But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
