The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 facing one another. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and banana trees, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
