Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ The Inevitable! (Day of Judgment). 1 What is the sure calamity! 2 And what have you understood, how tremendous the true event is! 3 Samood and Ad called the striking calamity a lie. 4 But the Thamud,- they were destroyed by a terrible Storm of thunder and lightning! 5 And the 'Ad, they were destroyed by a furious Wind, exceedingly violent; 6 Which Allah imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees. 7 Now dost thou see any remnant of them? 8 And Pharaoh, and those before him, and the Cities Overthrown, committed habitual Sin. 9 They did not follow the Messenger of their Lord, and so He seized them with a severe grip. 10 When the water rose in flood, We bore you in the ark, 11 so that We might make all this a [lasting] reminder to you all, and that every wide-awake ear might consciously take it in. 12 When the single blast is sounded on the trumpet, 13 And the earth and mountains heaved and crushed to powder with one levelling blow, 14 On that day shall the great event come to pass, 15 And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm. 16 And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them]. 17 That Day shall you be brought to Judgement, not a secret of you will be hidden. 18 On that Day, he whose Record is given to him in his right hand will say: “Lo! Read my Record! 19 Surely I knew that I should have to meet my reckoning. 20 They will have a pleasant life 21 In a high garden 22 The Fruits whereof (will hang in bunches) low and near. 23 (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of what you did in days long passed' 24 As for him whose Record will be given to him in his left hand, he will exclaim: “Would that I had never been given my Record, 25 And not known my account! 26 Would it had been the end! 27 My riches have not availed me, 28 I am bereft of power." 29 'Take him, and fetter him, 30 And then expose him to hell-fire 31 then in a chain of seventy cubits' length insert him! 32 for he did not believe in Almighty God, 33 And urged not on the feeding of the wretched. 34 So there is not for him here this Day any devoted friend 35 Nor any food except from the discharge of wounds; 36 that none but sinners eat' 37
