In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 We are about to reveal to you a mighty word. 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Lord of the eastern and western regions, with due sincerity. 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever will, let him take a Path to His Lord! 19
