In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 worship (God) for a few hours at night. 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 We are about to cast upon you a weighty Word. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 The Lord of the East and the West-- there is no god but He-- therefore take Him for a protector. 9 And bear patiently the vain things they utter, and gracefully forsake them. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
