The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 Requital corresponding. 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
