The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 And made the night as clothing 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 The rebels' abode, 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 Recompense fitted! 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
