The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 About which they differ? 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 , A fitting reward. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
