He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and in awe of God 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
