The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
When the sun is overthrown, 1 And when the stars fall, dispersing, 2 when the mountains shall be set in motion, 3 when the ten-months pregnant camels shall be abandoned, 4 and when all beasts are gathered together, 5 and when the seas boil over, 6 souls are reunited with their bodies, 7 And when the female infant buried alive is asked 8 For what crime she was put to death; 9 When the scrolls are laid open; 10 And when the heaven is torn away. 11 And when hell is lighted, 12 And when the Garden is brought near;- 13 (Then) every soul will know what it had prepared (for itself). 14 I do not need to swear by the orbiting 15 Go straight, or hide; 16 And by the night as it departs; 17 and the morning when it extends, 18 Verily this is the word of a noble message-bearer; 19 endowed with power and held in honour by the Lord of the Throne -- 20 obeyed, and honest. 21 Nor is your companion distracted. 22 And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon. 23 He is not chary of making public what is unknown. 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 Whither then go ye? 26 This [message] is no less than a reminder to all mankind 27 For those of you who desire to walk the path that is straight, 28 Though you cannot desire except as God will, the Lord of all the worlds. 29
