The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
When the sun is wound up; 1 When the stars fall, losing their lustre; 2 and the mountains have been taken, 3 and when she-camels big with young, about to give birth, are left untended, 4 When the wild beasts are herded together (in the human habitations); 5 and when the seas are set on fire, 6 when the souls shall be rejoined (with their bodies), 7 questions are asked about the baby girls buried alive, 8 for what sin she was killed, 9 And when the pages are laid open, 10 And when the sky is stripped away 11 when Hell shall be set blazing, 12 And when the Garden is brought nigh, 13 then every soul will discover the consequence of its deeds. 14 So by oath of those that revolve. (The planets.) 15 Who move straight and stop. 16 And by the night when it departeth, 17 The rising dawn, 18 That this is in truth the word of an honoured messenger, 19 Owner of strength, of established dignity with the Lord of the Throne. 20 there he is obeyed and held trustworthy. 21 And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed; 22 And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon. 23 And Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen. 24 Nor is it the word of a satan accursed. 25 Whither, then, will you go? 26 This is a reminder for all the peoples of the world, 27 To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight, 28 And ye will not, unless (it be) that Allah willeth, the Lord of Creation. 29
