Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the dawn 1 And the ten nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
