Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 And ten nights, 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 and by the passing night, 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
