Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the break of Day 1 And the ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 Join My servants. 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
