Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 Of a related orphan, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
