The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness, 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 By the Earth and its (wide) expanse: 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 TO [THIS] TRUTH gave the lie, in their overweening arrogance, [the tribe of] Thamud, 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 although God's apostle had told them, "It is a she-camel belonging to God, so let her drink [and do her no harm]!" 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
