The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 And by oath of the night when it hides it 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 and the earth and all its expanse! 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 And inspired in it the knowledge of its sins and its piety. 8 To a happy state shall indeed attain he who causes this [self] to grow in purity, 9 And indeed failed is the one who covered it in sin. 10 The people of Thamud rejected (the truth) as a result of their rebelliousness 11 when the most wicked man among them rose up. 12 although God's apostle had told them, "It is a she-camel belonging to God, so let her drink [and do her no harm]!" 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
