The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 And by oath of the moon when it follows the sun 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
