The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Concerning what are they disputing? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 The night a covering, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 On that day the trumpet will be sounded and you will come (to Us) in huge groups. 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
