The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And rejects the best, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
