The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
