And We sent Saleh to the tribe of Thamud, from their own community; he said, “O my people! Worship Allah – you do not have any God except Him; indeed a clear proof has come to you from your Lord; this is Allah’s she-camel – a sign for you – so leave her free to feed in Allah’s earth, and do not touch her with evil intentions for a painful punishment will seize you.” 73 "And remember when He made you successors after 'Ad (people) and gave you habitations in the land, you build for yourselves palaces in plains, and carve out homes in the mountains. So remember the graces (bestowed upon you) from Allah, and do not go about making mischief on the earth." 74 The leaders of the arrogant party among his people said to those who were reckoned powerless - those among them who believed: "know ye indeed that Salih is a messenger from his Lord?" They said: "We do indeed believe in the revelation which hath been sent through him." 75 Those who were stiff-necked said: verily we are disbelievers in that which ye believe. 76 (Then) they hamstrung the shecamel and defied the order of their Lord, saying to Salih: 'Bring down that which you have promised us if you truly are one of the Messengers' 77 Thereupon an earthquake overtook them: and then they lay lifeless, in their very homes, on the ground. 78 Then he turned from them, and said: O my people! Assuredly I delivered unto you the messages of my Lord, and counselled you good, but ye approve not the good counsellors. 79 We also (sent) Lut: He said to his people: "Do ye commit lewdness such as no people in creation (ever) committed before you? 80 Most surely you come to males in lust besides females; nay you are an extravagant people. 81 His people had no answer to his remarks but to tell one another, "Expel him from our town; he and his people want to purify themselves." 82 And We rescued him and his household, save his wife, who was of those who stayed behind. 83 We rained down on them a shower [of brimstone]. Then see what was the end of the evil-doers. 84
