The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an. 1 The disbelievers will ardently wish that if only they had been Muslims! (At the time of death / in their graves / on the Day of Resurrection.) 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope. They will come to know! 3 Never a city have We destroyed, but it had a known decree, 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the Reminder is revealed, lo! thou art indeed a madman! 6 Why do you not bring to us the angels if you are of the truthful ones? 7 We do not send down the angels (in frivolity); and when We do send them down, We do so with Truth; then people are granted no respite. 8 then they would not be respited. It is We who have sent down the Remembrance, and We watch over it. 9 And indeed We sent Noble Messengers before you, to the former nations. 10 but there was never a messenger who came to them but they mocked him: 11 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty: 12 They do not believe in it, and indeed the example of the former people has already passed. 13 And if We open for them a gate in the heavens, to ascend it through the day – 14 yet would they say, 'Our eyes have been dazzled; nay, we are a people bewitched!' 15
