۞ Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well. 51 When he asked his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so devoted?" 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: Certainly you have been, (both) you and your fathers, in manifest error. 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 He said, "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, He Who created them (from nothing): and I am a witness to this (Truth). 56 And, by Allah! I will certainly do something against your idols after you go away, turning back. 57 He broke them all into pieces, except their great one so that they might return to it. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 They said, “Did you do this to our Gods, O Ibrahim?” 62 "No," he said. "It was done by that chief of theirs. Ask him in case they can speak." 63 Then they thought and observed: "Surely you are yourselves unjust." 64 Then their minds were turned upside down, and they said: "You know well that they do not speak." 65 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allah, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense? 67 They said: Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do (anything). 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 They sought to outwit him, but We made them the worst of losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and the giving of Zakat and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Verily he was of the righteous. 75
