The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 "And Gardens and Springs. 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 This has been happening all along. 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
