The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly; 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 Do not cause her to suffer lest you become subject to the torment of the great day (of Judgment)." 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
