۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell; 23 And stop them; indeed, they are to be questioned." 24 "How is it that [now] you cannot succour one another?" 25 No, today they will resign themselves in submission, 26 and advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 27 They said, “It is you who used to come to us from our right, in order to sway.” 28 They will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers. 29 We had no authority over you, but you were an insolent nation. 30 Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom). 31 We led you astray as we were ourselves astray." 32 So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another. 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 Surely they used to behave proudly when it was said to them: There is no god but Allah; 35 saying, 'What, shall we forsake our gods for a poet possessed?' 36 Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. 37 you shall surely taste the painful punishment, 38 And ye shall be required not except for that which ye have been doing; 39 Save the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 40 for them awaits a known provision, 41 Fruits. And they will be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Bliss 43 (Sitting) on couches, face to face, 44 They will be served with a cup full of crystal clear wine, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 but not harmful or intoxicating. 47 They will have with them loving wives with big black and white eyes 48 As if they were eggs, safely hidden. 49 Then one turned to the other in an enquiry. 50 One of them speaks thus: "Behold, I had [on earth] a close companion 51 who would say: "Are you among the believers (of the resurrection)? 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 He said (to others on the thrones), “Will you take a glimpse (into hell) below?” 54 He therefore looked down and saw him amidst the blazing fire. 55 And he will say: by Allah, thou hadst wellnigh causedest me to perish. 56 Had it not been for the grace of my Lord I too would have been there (in Hell). 57 What then, shall we not die 58 [again,] beyond our previous death, and that we shall never [again] be made to suffer? 59 This is indeed the mighty triumph, 60 For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work. 61 Is this better or the tree of Zaqqum 62 For We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 for, behold, it is a tree that grows in the very heart of the blazing fire [of hell,] 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils: 65 They will eat and fill their bellies with it, 66 On top of it they shall have a brew of boiling water, 67 Then most surely their return shall be to hell. 68 They had found their fathers astray, 69 So they in their footsteps are rushing. 70 And truly before them, many of the ancients went astray;- 71 And certainly We sent among them warners. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),- 73 Except the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 74
