He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 olives, dates, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
