AND HAS the story of Abraham's honoured guests ever come within thy ken? 24 When they came to him, they said: "Peace." He answered: "Peace." They were a people he did not recognise. 25 Then he turned away privately unto his household, and brought a calf fatted. 26 He then presented it before them and said, “Do you not eat?” 27 Then he conceived a fear of them. They said, 'Be not afraid!' And they gave him good tidings of a cunning boy. 28 Thereupon his wife approached [the guests] with a loud cry, and struck her face [in astonishment] and exclaimed: "A barren old woman [like me]!" 29 'Such, says your Lord' they replied: 'He is the Wise, the Knower' 30 ۞ Abraham asked, "Messengers, what is your task?" 31 They said: verily we are sent unto a people, guilty. 32 to let loose upon them stone-hard blows of chastisement, 33 "Marked as from thy Lord for those who trespass beyond bounds." 34 So We brought forth such believers as were in it, 35 but We found only one Muslim house. 36 And so We left therein a message for those who fear the grievous suffering [which awaits all evildoers]. 37 And in Moses (too, there is a portent) when We sent him unto Pharaoh with clear warrant, 38 but he turned his back with his Assembly, saying: 'He is (either) a sorcerer or a mad man' 39 We seized him and his army and threw them into the sea. He himself was to be blamed. 40 And in the 'Ad (people) (was another Sign): Behold, We sent against them the devastating Wind: 41 It spared nothing that it reached, but blew it into broken spreads of rotten ruins. 42 And in Thamood it was said to them: 'Take your enjoyment for awhile' 43 Then they disdained the command of their Lord; wherefore the bolt laid hold of them even while they looked on. 44 they could neither stand up straight, nor were they helped. 45 And the people of Nuh before, surely they were a transgressing people. 46
