The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 Upon the disbelievers – the punishment that none can avert. 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 but, We see it as near! 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 But nay! Verily, all [that awaits him] is a raging flame, 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 [As a rule,] whenever misfortune touches him, he is filled with self-pity; 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 But not so the worshippers 22 Those who are regular in their prayers. 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 and who accept as true the [coming of the] Day of Judgment; 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 and those who guard their private parts, 29 except from their wives and what their right hands own, for these they are not blameworthy. 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 These will dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
