The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 But We see it very near. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 though they may see each other. A sinner will wish that he could save himself from the torment of that day by sacrificing his children, 11 his wife, his brother, 12 and of all the kinsfolk who ever sheltered him, 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 tearing away his skin! 16 It will claim all such as turn their backs [on what is right,] and turn away [from the truth,] 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
